When I am painting on the beach I stop for the birds.
They move too fast to paint from life so I take a few photos and bring them back to the studio. But what I paint is not just what the camera saw. I paint what it felt like to be standing there when that bird owned the whole shoreline.
I made it bigger on purpose. Because that is how it felt.
The Willet just standing there in the wet sand, completely unbothered by the waves, completely unbothered by me. That stillness in all that movement is what I was after.
