It was an artist day out at Buena Vista Audubon Nature Center.
Several of us had set up along the lagoon at different points. I could see a painter off in the distance across the water and two more directly to my left. Everyone doing their own thing. Nobody talking. Just the sound of the preserve and the scratch of brushes.
Solitary day in company. That is the only way I know how to say it.
I painted the boardwalk edge, the tall marsh grasses, the water showing through in patches of blue, and the tree coming in from the right like it was leaning in to see what I was doing.
